Required Materials

  • To assist in the student’s success, he/she needs to bring on a daily basis the following materials: textbook, workbook papers, folder, pencils, and calculator. Any additional materials will be discussed in class.

Homework – Homework is sometimes the basis for the next class period; each student needs to have it completed in order to participate. All assignments should be completed in a blue or black pen (or pencil), it should be neat, complete, on time and your own work. Occasionally homework is collected and graded as a quiz. Some missing assignments may be made up for half credit. If a student is absent he/she should show me the assignment that was due the day of their absence and ask for the assignment that they missed. At the end of the marking period, homework is figured into the final grade as a percentage of the grade.

Grades – Your grade for each marking period will consist of several marks – Tests, Quizzes, Homework and Class Participation. If there is a test scheduled and you are absent that day you should see me when you return in order to take the test as soon as possible – which may mean taking the test after school.

Students will be assigned case studies and projects as they relate to the topics discussed. The overall grade will be apportioned accordingly (any change to these allocations will be disclosed to students in advance):

Tests – 80%

Classwork-Homework – 20%
*percentages subject to change

Note: Cases and projects will be considered as either test scores or quizzes depending on their length and complexity. This will be disclosed to students upon assignment.

  • Come prepared – Students should come with all the materials they need for class. Those materials include their textbook, pens, pencils and binder. Each student is responsible for keeping all materials covered in class in order.
  • Participate – Class Participation is a portion of the grade. Questions, answers, and discussions cannot be left to two or three students. It is important to show that you can answer questions and that you are thinking about the material. Class participation is about adding your viewpoint, asking questions, answering questions and learning. The following behaviors can only serve to take time away from class and may result in detention, involvement with the Assistant Principal, and will result in a poor Class Participation mark – blurting out answers without raising hand, copying homework, doing work from another class, not paying attention, talking during instruction, and being off task during individual and/or group work.
